The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) are planning a proactive strategy for Northern Ireland landlords with regards to cannabis factories in rental property in Northern Ireland (NI). The programme is aimed primarily at landlords in Northern Ireland who are the biggest losers when a factory is set up, subsequently discovered and dismantled. The cost to each landlord to put right the structural and cosmetic damage can run into the tens of thousands and many landlords insurance policies won’t provide adequate cover for repairs.
The intention of the PSNI Organised Crime Branch is to inform landlords about what you can do to prevent your property being used as a cannabis factory, helping not only the PSNI but also the landlords and their property owners insurance premiums.
PSNI are also trying to enlist the participation of Royal Mail, Department of Environment, NIE and any other organisations that have operatives on the street that may be able to assist.
They have arranged an event on Wednesday 24th September 2014 at Newforge Country Club, Belfast and are inviting landlords to attend the event. DC Jim Kathro is asking for interested parties to email him to express and interest, to include your contact details and location.
PSNI would like as many landlords as possible to attend this event to kick start their proactive approach to tackle cannabis farms being set up in private houses all over Northern Ireland.
